ABOUT

The Master of Technology program in Computer science with specialization in  Cyber Forensics and Information Security at College of Engineering Kallooppara combines the disciplines of technology, business, organizational behavior, and law. As new technological innovations continue to proliferate in our society, so do the opportunities for technology exploitation. In this program,students learn techniques used to detect, respond to, and prevent network intrusions. They also master broader concepts such as the responsible use of resources, the appropriate management of risks, and the alignment of information technology with the organization. Converting them to a computer investigating specialist is the main objective of this program.
Cyber forensics, also called computer forensics or digital forensics, is the process of extracting information and data from computers to serve as digital evidence - for civil purposes or, in many cases, to prove and legally prosecute cyber crime. With technology changing and evolving on a daily basis, cyber forensic professionals must continually keep pace and educate themselves on the new techniques to collect this data. They are tasked with being an expert in forensic techniques and procedures, standards of practice, and legal and ethical principles that will assure the accuracy, completeness and reliability of the digital evidence.
The goal of computer forensics is to examine digital media in a forensically sound manner with the aim of identifying, preserving, recovering, analyzing and presenting facts and opinions about the information.
Although it is most often associated with the investigation of a wide variety of computer crime, computer forensics may also be used in civil proceedings. The discipline involves similar techniques and principles to data recovery, but with additional guidelines and practices designed to create a legal audit trail.
Evidence from computer forensics investigations is usually subjected to the same guidelines and practices of other digital evidence. It has been used in a number of high-profile cases and is becoming widely accepted as reliable within the court systems of various countries.
Government and law enforcement agencies need skilled professionals who can join the fight against cyber crime, cyber terrorism, identity theft, and the exploitation of minors. Companies and other private sector organizations need skilled professionals with both business acumen and technology skills for recognizing and mitigating vulnerabilities. So there is a huge need of skilled manpower in this area.

ADMISSION

Eligibility: Applicants should in general satisfy the eligibility conditions as prescribed in the prospectus for admission to PG degree course in Engineering published yearly by the Department of Technical Education, Govt. of Kerala

Qualifications Prescribed: B. E. / B. Tech in Computer Science & Engineering / Information Technology / Electronics & Communication Engineering / Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering with a minimum of 60 % marks

Selection of Candidates:
Seats are reserved in Merit Quota for SC/ST and other backward communities as per the reservation policies of Kerala Government. The distribution of seats and selection procedure in different categories of seats are as follows.

Approved intake-24 seats

1. Merit Quota (75% seats of total approved intake)-18 seats
75% seats of the approved intake of M Tech Programme will be filled up from open merit from the rank list published by DTE for M.Tech admission, by observing the reservation policies of Government.
2. Sponsored Quota (25% seats of total approved intake)-6 seats
25% seats of the approved intake of M Tech Programme are under sponsored quota and are reserved for eligible candidates from Educational / Research Institutions approved by AICTE / UGC/ Govt/Universities or Industry out of which one seat is reserved for eligible candidates from IHRD. The selection except for IHRD sponsored candidates will be on the basis of Qualifying Examination marks and experience. Minimum of 2 years Experience is required. In the absence of sufficient applications in sponsored quota, the vacant seats will be converted to open merit seats and selection will be done accordingly


COURSE STRUCTURE

Four semester programme with a total duration of two academic years, wherein the first two semesters will include lectures, laboratory work and seminar. Third and fourth semesters will be devoted to a project work in the relevant area of the specialization. The course content will be as per the syllabus prescribed by CUSAT, which will be aligned, to suit emerging technology trends
